How To Check Your Roof After a Storm

In cases of strong wind, heavy rain, and hail, your roof can sustain significant damage. Winds alone, if strong enough, can cause minor damage to your roof, damage that will become more serious as time moves along, and put the durability of your roof structure at risk. Debris from windstorms can chip away at the integrity of your roof over time. With enough wind storms, your roof will eventually require professional maintenance. It is important that you understand that minor roof damage can turn major.

Check For Roof Damage

Storm Roof Damage

Some signs of damage are more obvious than others

There are several things you can look for after a storm to determine a baseline for the amount of damage your roof has sustained. Curled shingles are a clear sign of roof damage. Patched areas around your roof indicate some type of damage, as do tears or cracks around your roof penetrations. If you are uncomfortable going up to the roof, you can also check indoors for possible signs. Indoor signs include brown or yellow stains on the ceiling or walls that would indicate moisture infiltration. You might notice peeling of wallpaper, another bad sign. If you become aware that your home’s ventilation is off, or you are being charged more in energy bills, your roof has likely sustained damage.

The Next Step

Once you have determined that your home is showing signs of roof damage, the next step is to call a professional. At Ariat Roofing we provide trusted roofing services to properties in Las Vegas, NV. If your home sustained damage from severe weather, or an accumulation of wind storms, call us right now at 702-208-4153

What to Ask When Looking for a Good Roofing Contractor

When it comes to your roofing system, you want to make sure that it’s in the absolute best hands. But how do you seed out the amateurs from the professionals? Not to worry! The experts at Ariat Roofing are here to recommend some questions to ask when you’re looking for a good roofing contractor.

  1. Does your company have general liability insurance? Just how workers’ compensation is insurance that covers the individual employees, general liability insurance covers any mishaps that may happen to your property. So of course, you want the answer to be yes.
  2. Do have a local address and phone number? Beware of storm chasers. These are contractors that travel from city to city, following major storms, going from door to door soliciting their “roofing expertise”. Don’t fall for it! Dealing with these types means that you will be overpaying for shoddy services. Only trust a legitimate, professional roofing company, which will have an actual physical address that may not be too far from your area.
  3. Will you provide a written estimate? Having an outlined written contract for the services to come can save you a lot of trouble in the future. Having the detailed work order, along with the quoted prices, helps to avoid the risk of not having something done or being overcharged.

These are just a very few of the many questions that you should ask when you’re looking for a good roofing contractor. If you’re wondering about what other questions you should keep in mind or you’re looking for quality, local roofing services in Las Vegas, NV, call Ariat Roofing at 702-208-4153.

Signs of Storm Damage

When bad weather hits, your roof keeps you and your family safe from the elements. From high winds to sudden temperature changes, your roof undergoes a lot of wear and tear. After bad weather, be sure to inspect your roof for signs of storm damage.

Missing or Peeling Shingles

Hail Damage can Leave Small Dents or Large Holes in Your Roof, which can Lead to Water Damage

Are there missing shingles on your roof, or pieces of your roof laying in your yard? Have high winds lifted flaps of shingles or flat roofing membrane? These problems call for quick repair to prevent extensive water damage. When the outer layer of your roofing system gets damaged, it opens up the more vulnerable lower layers to a higher risk of damage.

Dents, Dark Spots, and Missing Granules

Hail can cause all sorts of problems, and they are easy to overlook if you aren’t sure what you are looking for. You might see a random pattern of dents or even holes if the hail was large enough. Hail can also leave behind dark, bald or shiny looking spots on asphalt shingles. It can bruise your roof, like a bruise on an apple, leaving behind a weakened spot where the asphalt granules were worn off. If not repaired, this can contribute to premature roof failure and leaks.

Damaged Property

Once it is safe to go outside, look around your yard for signs of damage. If your car, shrubs, or anything else looks unusual, there is a good chance that your roof took damage too. You can also inspect the inside of your home for water leaks. Checking your roof for signs of storm damage is always a good idea!

If your roof suffered damage and needs storm repair, call Ariat Roofing at 702-208-4153. We repair all types of roofs in Las Vegas, NV!

Top Roof Maintenance Tips

Evaluate At Your Roof

Take a look at your roof. Do you notice any areas missing materials? Are your shingles curling? Any warped, damaged, or missing roofing materials are a strong indicator that you should have a roofer come out. If your roofing material is weakened or torn off, it could lead to leaks and further damage.

Clean Your Gutters

Cleaning your gutters can tell you a lot about your roofing system. When you pull out leaves, take notice of any wear on your gutters themselves. Rust, bubbling, and damage means that your gutters may be failing. Inspect what has collected in your gutter system. If you notice any tiles, shingles, or granules, your roof is wearing down.

Note Any Landscaping Problems

What could landscaping possibly have to do with your roof? Well, an overhanging tree branch could fall upon your roof at the next storm. Look for any landscaping problems that could adversely affect your roof.

These simple steps will keep your roof in good shape for a long time and let you know when you need maintenance. For a thorough maintenance inspection and service, call Ariat Roofing today at 702-208-4153.

5 Great Benefits of Tile Roofs

Tile is one of the best roofing materials available and provides several benefits. However, many homeowners wonder if the cost is worth it. To help you decide, here are a few benefits of tile roofs.

benefits of tile roofs

The average asphalt shingle roof lasts about 20 to 30 years when properly maintained. A tile roof, however, can easily last 80 years or more! There are centuries-old tile roofs still standing in Europe. If you plan on owning a home for decades to come, a tile roof is a great investment. Unless your home sustains extreme damage, you will probably never need to replace your tile roof.

So what makes your tile roof last for so long? Clay and concrete tiles are extremely durable, and can withstand just about anything. They are Class A fireproof, can withstand winds of 150 miles per hour, and stand up to hail larger than a golf ball. Tile roofs also exceed the current seismic load requirements, so proper installation will keep your roof safe.

On of the major benefits of tile roofs is unparalleled style. Available is a variety of colors and styles, tile roofs add significant curb appeal to your home. This will also add value if you decide to sell your home. Choose classic Spanish red barrel tiles for a Mediterranean flair. Or choose a natural brown flat tile for a traditional look with extreme durability. The options are endless!

Low Maintenance

Unlike asphalt roofs, tile roofs are low maintenance and rarely need repair. If a severe storm does damage your roof, tiles are easy to replace since they are individually installed. This means fast and simple repairs when you need them!

Tile roofs provide several environmental benefits. Because they last so long, you won’t clog up landfills with reroofing materials. Tile does not deplete resources like asphalt and contains no chemicals. Plus, tile will help insulate your home and cut your energy bill. Because they create a natural airflow, they form a heat transfer barrier. This means a cooler house in the summer and warmer home in the winter.

“The Roof Looks Great”

11251809_955219291239056_4564244845332167678_nI very RARELY give reviews..but I felt this was needed. Credit given where credit is due. The whole process (which I was dreading) went off without a hitch. Super professional staff with super results. The original roof work was done on 2/2015 and a year later 6/2016 after a heavy rain…a small leak was detected in the garage and Jay sent his staff out for inspection and fixed it by pulling tiles and reworking the entire area where the leak was. I came home from work and I could never tell they were even out. I checked in side the garage where the leak used to be..and detected NO water. No trash or debris was left and the roof looks great.
